Speaker 1:

Hi, I'm Alexa and I'm Rory, and together we are the Romies. We are married.

Speaker 2:

To each other.

Speaker 1:

Right, we are a touring musical duo.

Speaker 2:

And our music has taken us to all kinds of places all around the world and keeps us always on the go.

Speaker 1:

So we hope you enjoy our stories and adventures while running around working to keep all your plates spinning.

Speaker 2:

And we hope, to facilitate your busy lifestyle and feed your inner travel bug. Hi everyone, welcome to the Romy's Podcast.

Speaker 1:

Welcome back to the Romy's Podcast, because I know you're a regular listener.

Speaker 2:

Yes, you are. If you haven't listened to our latest episode yet, go check it out. We talked about some amazing wellness destinations right here in the US.

Speaker 1:

That's interesting because you said to our latest episode and that would be this one, as they're listening Our previous episode, right? So if you haven't listened to the latest episode, just keep listening. That's good, okay, anyway, welcome back.

Speaker 2:

This is Rory, by the way, he's the funny one and I'm. Alexa yeah, so if you're looking for something a little closer to home, listen to our previous episode.

Speaker 1:

Yes, well, it depends on where your home is.

Speaker 2:

But yes, right, if you live in the US Right and then.

Speaker 1:

Today we're going to take things global yes, global. We know a lot of you guys are based in Europe, a lot of our listeners. We travel to Europe a good bit and I have so many wonderful friends there.

Speaker 2:

So for some of you so thank you for listening. We appreciate you and love you.

Speaker 1:

Yes, so for some of you, these places may be right in your own backyard or garden, or what else would they? Call it, they don't say yards, what else would they call it? They don't say yards, it's a garden, right? Yeah, terrace, maybe in your own little garden there, which we would call a yard. But since we're based in the US, we're considering anything outside of the states as abroad.

Speaker 2:

So we're going to cover those in this episode. So just as a reminder, just like the previous episode, none of the destinations we're going to be sharing with you today are sponsoring this episode. We've never personally been to any of these locations, so we can't vouch for them firsthand, but we put together this list as a jumping point to help you start your own research.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and like the last episode, we mentioned that wellness travel can mean so many different things to different people, and it could be a spa retreat, hot springs or adventure travel. We mentioned those things. It might rejuvenate your body, your mind. So today we're going to break down, yeah, so we're going to break down. That broke down completely into three sections and we're going to start with Switzerland yes, since we are addicted to it. Then Germany, mm-hmm Austria, europe. Germany slash Austria, slash Europe, if you will.

Speaker 1:

And finally, other international spots beyond Europe. There is a world beyond Europe.

Speaker 2:

We don't go there as often, Not as often but we love it still, yeah, we want to go yeah more. So today we're going to be categorizing by location, as opposed to type of wellness travel that you might find in each of these places. All right, right, all right.

Speaker 1:

So let's talk. Switzerland, yes, the pinnacle of wellness retreats.

Speaker 2:

Okay, all right. So Switzerland is like so synonymous with wellness. If you heard two episodes back, face products or whatever and skin products.

Speaker 1:

It's like oh it's from Switzerland, or a new medicine that came out, a holistic. It was designed by doctors in Switzerland and you're like, oh, it must be really good, right, right.

Speaker 2:

And if you listened to episodes back, you heard us talking about all the wonderful fresh food there, so you know we just continue to be fans. But anyway, there's something about the crisp mountain air, the pristine lakes, the world class hospitality that makes this a prime spot.

Speaker 1:

True enough If you think about it, like, even back in the day, the famous writers, like Mary Shelley she wrote Frankenstein, I think, while she was in Switzerland, and so it's yeah people have been going there for a long time for rejuvenation and stuff.

Speaker 1:

They would go there and they would write, yeah, and inspiration, all that. So Switzerland, first up, we're going to talk about Burgenstock Resort. We would say Burgenstock, but I think it's a new one, burgenstock Resort. Anyway, on Lake Lucerne, which is gorgeous, it's got everything, apparently Spas, infinity pools and incredible views of the lake and mountains. No matter where you are in Lucerne, you've got incredible views of the lake. If you're in the dungeon or in a basement, you've got incredible views of the lake and mountains. This place is supposedly total luxury.

Speaker 2:

And so it doesn.

Speaker 1:

Right. So total luxury means totally, really, really expensive, because we're talking about Switzerland.

Speaker 2:

I would dare to you know.

Speaker 1:

No, I'm not sure.

Speaker 2:

That no matter where.

Speaker 1:

You would venture to guess.

Speaker 2:

I would venture to not ever be wrong that any of these resorts are not going to be in the inexpensive category, because we're talking about this country that we're talking about.

Speaker 1:

Yes, all right.

Speaker 2:

And these activities.

Speaker 1:

So what's another place?

Speaker 2:

Okay, so then there's Chenot Palace Veggies.

Speaker 1:

Veggies, veggies, veggies.

Speaker 2:

When we look at it as Americans, it looks like Weggis W-E-G-G-I-S.

Speaker 1:

I guess Veggies maybe.

Speaker 2:

So this is also on Lake Lucerne and this one is apparently more focused on medical wellness, so it's going to provide personal health programs designed to help you detox, de-stress and boost your longevity.

Speaker 1:

Nice, and of course there's the grand resort Bad Ragaz. This place is built around thermal waters.

Speaker 2:

Which I didn't know there were any in Switzerland.

Speaker 1:

There's everything there. Are you kidding me?

Speaker 2:

See, even if you don't know, you know there is True.

Speaker 1:

It combines medical expertise with spa treatments for the ultimate wellness getaway according to them.

Speaker 2:

Let's check into that when we go this summer.

Speaker 1:

Grand Resort sounds big anyway.

Speaker 2:

All right, then we have Clinique La Prairie in Montreux. Montreux, we would say Montreux they have this big castle there that you need to see when you're there.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it's over a thousand years old.

Speaker 2:

Okay. Well, this Clinique is famous for its science-driven longevity program, so if you're looking for an ultra luxury experience that blends medicine and wellness, this could be for you.

Speaker 1:

Could be your place. All right, let's move on to section two. Yeah, we're going to expand our territory.

Speaker 2:

Now just to next door countries.

Speaker 1:

Germany, that was Austria and Germany together.

Speaker 2:

Right, that was good.

Speaker 1:

Germany, austria and other European destinations. So these guys, these countries, have some seriously incredible wellness retreats. I mean there's Alps and mountains and lakes and rivers.

Speaker 2:

So just going there, your heart's going to be happy, All right. So in Germany you have Villa Stefani at Brenner's Park in Baden-Baden.

Speaker 1:

Baden-Baden been there.

Speaker 2:

It's one of the most famous spa retreats in Europe, apparently, so it combines traditional spa treatments with cutting edge medical care, so if you're into detoxing, you might want to check out Lanserhof.

Speaker 1:

Lanserhof, dergensee, oh, which means it's on a lake.

Speaker 2:

It's on a lake.

Speaker 1:

Lanserhof, dergensee.

Speaker 2:

I'm so glad he's here to bail me out.

Speaker 1:

Wow, no, I'm not.

Speaker 2:

All right, well, it's going to. It focuses on gut health and metabolic balance.

Speaker 1:

Maybe I need to go to this place, see.

Speaker 2:

Well, why not All right?

Speaker 1:

Over in Austria, cool name.

Speaker 2:

Right.

Speaker 1:

Offering tailored relaxation and rejuvenation I don't know programs. That sounds like the place I want to go now.

Speaker 2:

Let's go to Atmosphere. I want to check all of these out. Okay, then you have Bio Hotel we would say bio we would say bio, but like in a good way, like, even in like, when we buy our food that's organic, they say it's bio.

Speaker 1:

B-I-O, but the total name of it is Bio Hotel Stanglwirt. I'm so glad you're here, stanglwirt.

Speaker 2:

All right. So here you have an eco luxury hotel.

Speaker 1:

So maybe we can do this one with a focus on sustainability and wellness. According, it's a stunning eco luxury hotel, so yeah, yes, what did I say? You just said it's a luxury hotel.

Speaker 2:

I'm saying, apparently it's a stunning eco-luxury hotel, yeah, okay. Eco-friendly, eco-friendly, there you go.

Speaker 1:

Not economically affordable Now here's a place we've never been. But if you're looking for a place in Spain, the SHA Wellness Clinic in Alicante is world-renowned for its combination of medical and holistic treatments. So they're world renowned. They even have a second location in Mexico, which is closer to us, just saying.

Speaker 2:

And I think they have maybe several locations around, so maybe that's a chain worth checking out.

Speaker 1:

All right, so let's expand outside the Belgians of Europa.

Speaker 2:

Speaking of Mexico.

Speaker 1:

Wellness retreats around the world. Speaking of Mexico.

Speaker 2:

Wellness retreats around the world. So a few highlights that we have found in our research.

Speaker 1:

And these are going to be really not easy to pronounce Chivasom in Hua Hin, Thailand.

Speaker 2:

We've never been to Thailand yet.

Speaker 1:

Nope, this place has been leading the way in wellness retreats for years. Apparently, it's got everything from spa retreats to detox programs and and fitness retreats you're like mixing all your words together and they're like but they're flowing.

Speaker 2:

You know, you've got I think I need to mow the lawn and put my mind, just sort of detox, you know y'all, I'm just gonna to rabbit chase here our first name before we were the romies, our like working title, with us as a duo was Rolexa.

Speaker 1:

Rolexa.

Speaker 2:

We were like combining the two names. Oh right, that was like our placeholder name until we came up with that we are the Romies.

Speaker 1:

Because it's Ro and me. Yeah, my favorite is the name that Jim gave you, oh yeah, our wonderful friend Jim Mills. Instead of some people call her Jolexa, but he calls her Perplexa, and I think Perplexa is just so good.

Speaker 2:

I think Glenn. Glenn Kimberlin gave me that. Did he call you that too? Glenn Kimberlin came up with that.

Speaker 1:

Oh, the first I ever heard say it was Jim.

Speaker 2:

Well, maybe Glenn and Jim know me well and then, but you know, initially my first name was Little Red Thunder Bunny.

Speaker 1:

Yes, little Red Thunder, Bunny Boy, that's a whole story in and of itself.

Speaker 2:

All right Back to wellness retreats around the world.

Speaker 1:

Yep.

Speaker 2:

And words we can't pronounce, and all of that. There's Kama-lay-a, kama-lay-a.

Speaker 1:

Kama-lay-a Ko-sa-mui.

Speaker 2:

Also in Thailand? How would you say that I don't know? I haven't been to Thailand so I haven't practiced my Thai. I just tried to say it real manly Kamalaya Kusamui. Oh, that's good Also in.

Speaker 1:

Thailand. They have a stress management retreat right Right and emotional healing programs in a beautiful setting by the beach when I think of. Thailand. I don't think of beach, but they've got like a giant coast they have all this stuff, so come on Over. In India there's Ananda which we got to go to the Himalayas, because Ananda's in the Himalayas.

Speaker 1:

And that's good salt, it's famous for its Ayurvedic wellness programs. They offer stress management retreats, yoga and even hormone balancing therapies I might send you there. Okay, I just, I don't know, just off the top of my head, it's a thought, it's a solo trip right, it's a solo trip.

Speaker 2:

We're always going to have guy time while I go off to India. All right. Now if you're looking for something off the beaten path, you've got Bushman's Kloof K-L-O-O-F in South Africa. It's a wellness retreat set in a nature reserve, and so it's absolutely beautiful there. It offers spa treatments, guided hikes and meditations on the stunning landscape that it offers, yeah, and a stunning landscape.

Speaker 1:

I've been to South Africa and it's just gorgeous. If this is anywhere near Cape Town, cape Town is probably the most beautiful city I've ever been to, absolutely gorgeous. So, yeah, I would say South Africa, this is probably definitely breathtaking scenery in this nature reserve and landscape. New Zealand, another place that we really want to go. So, if you live in New Zealand, have us over Aroha Wellness Retreat, and I'm guessing that is their local language. People, aroha Wellness Retreat Again, don't have any idea how they pronounce that it offers a mix of yoga, meditation, hiking, and this is for you.

Speaker 1:

Yay, plant-based cuisine, plant-based cuisine in a stunning alpine setting. So if you've seen Lord of the Rings, those are the mountains. So I'm talking about a stunning alpine setting.

Speaker 2:

See, we only see it in the movies because we've never been there, yeah, I hear.

Speaker 1:

It's awesome, it's on the list. It's on the list Our neighbors have been. They just went not long ago.

Speaker 2:

That's true. I know we're so jealous. All right. And another totally unique experience for your wellness travel to check into is the Arctic Bath Hotel in Sweden. We have been to Sweden. Here's one we've been to. We haven't been to this place, this hotel, but we've been to Sweden.

Speaker 1:

Sounds really cool though.

Speaker 2:

It does.

Speaker 1:

And it offers spa treatments in floating cabins on a frozen river.

Speaker 2:

So I've got a question here. How can it?

Speaker 1:

float. If it's on a frozen river, it's only ice, so anyway, but that's what they say it's a floating cabin on a frozen river. Total nordic wellness immersion very, very fun hopefully, when they say immersion, they don't mean like into the ice.

Speaker 2:

uh-, uh-huh, uh-huh.

Speaker 1:

One that we can recommend, that we've been to, and we've talked about it before, is Blue Lagoon in Iceland, yes, Absolutely amazing, wonderful, and it made my skin look so pretty.

Speaker 2:

I was just going to say I feel like we've talked about this recently Probably Well, it's because of where we're going next month where we're going next month we can't wait for you to hear. But we were in the mineral baths in the blue lagoon and Rory's face was so beautiful.

Speaker 1:

Yes, I put the silicone that it naturally develops all over my face and my skin was glowing.

Speaker 2:

He was so handsomer even oh is it possible? I'm not sure. Yes.

Speaker 1:

So there you have it A global roundup of some incredible wellness destinations. Whether you're looking for luxury adventure detox or well, adventure comma detox, right, or just some deep relaxation, there's something out there for everyone.
